Alfred A. Knopf, an imprint of the Knopf Doubleday Pantheon Group at Penguin Random House, seeks an experienced Senior Publicist to join its busy, close-knit publicity department. Successful candidates should be highly organized and self-motivated with 5+ years of experience leading compelling publicity campaigns in a fast-paced, dynamic publishing environment. They will be responsible for a variety of titles per season, writing press materials, securing top national and regional media across print and digital, planning multi-city book tours, and liaising closely with authors, agents, editors, and marketing and sales colleagues. Candidates should have a personal passion for fiction and non-fiction books and the broad range of subjects in which we publish. This is an ideal position for a curious, creative candidate who has a passion for the literary world, current events, history, and the arts.


Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, develop, and execute original and effective publicity campaigns for approximately 5-7 titles per season, as well as some paperbacks
  • Pitch and secure national, local, and trade media for reviews, interviews, and features across print, broadcast, and digital outlets
  • Have strong written and communication skills and the ability to create compelling, creative pitches to media
  • Liaise directly with high-profile authors and their teams
  • Cultivate and sustain meaningful relationships with key press contacts
  • Maintain diligent records of publicity hits, clips, and press quotes
  • Conceive and plan events and multi-city book tours, including arranging author travel


Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in publicity
  • Must be able to prioritize, multi-task, and manage time effectively
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive, independent, problem-solving approach
  • Be detail-oriented and organized
  • Previous book publishing experience a plus
  • Ability to work with colleagues both remotely and in-person in a hybrid work environment preferred
