The Treasury and Chief Investment Office (TCIO) at JPMorgan Chase & Co. is responsible for firmwide asset and liability management for one of the world's largest global financial institutions with more than $3.3tn in assets and liabilities, including more than $2.1tn in deposits.

TCIO oversees a $500bn global investment securities portfolio used to manage the firm's interest rate and currency exposure. TCIO is responsible for developing and executing the firm's capital, balance sheet, liquidity and funding strategy.

Asset/Liability Management Research and Strategy

The Asset/Liability Management (ALM) Research and Strategy group within Treasury and CIO is looking for a senior associate in its New York City office. The group is responsible for developing best-in-class strategy and quantitative analytics and models to support the management of the firm's assets and liabilities. The candidate will be a key member in the Liability Strategy, Analytics and Modeling (LSAM) team within the ALM Research and Strategy group and will work across functional groups in CIO, in close conjunction with the treasury departments of other Lines of Business (LOBs). Areas of focus include building out an analytical deposit framework used for IRR, migration and NII forecasting; expanding existing suite of internal regression models to drive forecasts for industry deposit balances; and defining the top-down distribution of balances to the firm and LOB's.

Description

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a technical field with a strong interest in finance and economics. The research and strategy associate will conduct research and contribute to the development of analytics in various aspects of bank liability management. The job responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Strategic thinking: Evaluate and analyze firm's liability risks; participating in team problem-solving sessions in support of strategic business decision making
  • Advanced analytics: Develop advanced data analytics to model liability behavior
  • Stakeholder management: Build and maintain relationships with SMEs and LOB partners
  • Communication: Build visualizations, dashboards and written narratives to ensure clear and powerful messages are delivered to a senior audience
  • Project management: Following up on project next steps, proactively raising issues, and offering recommendations for potential solutions to immediate work streams

Qualifications
  • Strong academic background with a Ph.D. or an M.S. in engineering, mathematics, physics, economics or any other quantitative or technical background with a strong interest in finance
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), ability to prepare high quality PowerPoint presentations and to communicate findings to a non-technical audience
  • Excel design experience with ability to rapidly prototype solutions / visualizations to complex problems
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., python); willingness to dive into details and dig deep into data to find answers to challenging questions
  • Keen interest in banking, corporate finance, financial services strategy, and balance sheet management; experience in Fixed Income research strategy role would be ideal
  • Qualified candidates will be highly intelligent, analytical, resourceful, self-motivated individuals with a hunger to learn
