Our group acts as Paramount Pictures’ eyes and ears in the publishing world to find books and other literary properties for the studio to acquire and develop into feature films. We are looking to add a Director to our team to help us identify material with adaptation potential.

Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Support SVP, Literary Affairs in implementing strategic direction of the department
  • Source, track, and evaluate literary material (books, articles, graphic novels, short stories) at all publishing stages
  • Generate weekly and multi-weekly reports informing executives of source material in the marketplace and apprising various executives specifically of titles selected to match their development needs.
  • Have relationships with and understand the specific brands/needs of the producers on the lot to help find the right creative team for any given piece of material
  • Advise and assist Paramount Pictures in the acquisition of the dramatic rights to source material
  • Maintain large network of relationships with contacts in the publishing and dramatic rights marketplace, including literary agents, editors, and book-to-film agents.
  • Establish and maintain systems, databases, and department infrastructure
Qualifications/Skills:
  • A minimum of 7-years’ experience in film and/or foreign scouting
  • Must be a self-starter who works well autonomously
  • Must have strong writing and excellent communication skills
  • Must be a critical thinker with an ability to articulate material and ideas effectively with all levels of management
  • Proven ability to work under strict time constraints and meet deadlines
  • Must be detailed-oriented, organized and able to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong development history and talent for identifying unique material
  • Proven track record partnering with multiple disciplines on projects and practices
  • An avid reader with a passion for many genres of books and movies
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $100,000.00 - 130,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
