Job Description Join University of Chicago Medicine, as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) as a Consult Liaison Psych APP. Sign-on Bonus Eligible. In this role as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) you will be part of the multidisciplinary Adult Psychiatric Consult-Liaison (CL) team. You will be responsible for comprehensive direct management of medically ill, hospitalized adult patients for whom psychiatric consultation is requested. The CL- APP will manage a caseload of patients and exercise autonomous decision-making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of psychiatric treatments. All cases are discussed in the daily CL multidisciplinary team meeting. The CL APP utilizes advanced practice skills and has acquired the knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the CL team through organized instruction and supervised practice. They will provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, and clinical nursing specialist support, as well as completing administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the director/leadership. Essential Job Functions Ability to exercise autonomy in medical decision-making, provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services Taking a comprehensive psychiatric history, conducting examinations (physical and mental state), diagnosing illness, and formulating a differential diagnosis. Ordering and interpreting relevant laboratory and imaging tests Development of a comprehensive treatment plan for patients for whom psychiatric consultation is requested. Communication of treatment to the consulting team Regular follow-up on patients while medically hospitalized Family support and teaching, staff education, consultation, and research Ability to participate effectively in a multidisciplinary team ( including psychiatrists, psychiatry and neurology residents, social workers, psychology trainees, pharmacist) Ability to liaise effectively with multiple teams (consultees) throughout the hospitals Nurse Practitioner Required Qualifications Master's of Science in Nursing Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse's Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers Must have prior general psych experience Physician Assistant Required Qualifications Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure / registration ATLS certification Must have prior general psych experience Position Details Full Time (1.0) Days, 5x8hrs Unit/Department: APN Billing Non-Union Must comply with UCMC's COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process. This is in addition to your compliance with the Flu Vaccination requirement as well. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered consistent with applicable law.
