Academic Personnel Analyst

Under the direction of the Academic Personnel Manager, the Personnel Analyst is responsible for providing employment, personnel service and human resources to approximately 100 academic apprentice and undergraduate student personnel as well as 15 to 20 visiting academic titles, adjunct and lecturers in the Department of Economics. Incumbent uses appropriate processes to accomplish personnel actions including new hires, appointments, promotions and time reporting, completing any necessary paperwork and entering the data into University payroll systems. Incumbent also serves as a liaison with the benefits office for these employees, provides assistance with securing visas for visitors and serves as preparer, reviewer and back up for all Departmental personnel and payroll actions. Incumbent is also responsible for coordinating the development of the annual temporary teaching budget and then auditing those costs, which include adjunct, lecturers, teaching assistants, readers, temporary faculty appointments, providing quarterly budget reports to the CAO. They are also responsible for graduate student researcher appointments and tracking those expenses as well. This is a highly visible position that requires sensitivity, knowledge of University personnel policies and procedures, University payroll systems, and organizational skills to balance create, adjust and maintain the departments' personnel services systems. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 8:00 am Shift End: 5:00 pm Qualifications for Position 14 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred Demonstrated skill in communicating clearly and effectively with faculty, staff, students and visitors, both orally and written, to convey accurate and timely information to individuals and groups at various organizational levels. Required Ability to compose, edit, and proofread reports, memos and correspondence using Standard English grammar, punctuation, prose styles and formats, and reading skill to understand content of all manner of correspondence, reports and forms. Required Demonstrated skill in completing tasks in a confidential manner, and with tact and sensitivity. Required Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility. Required Interpersonal skill to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with faculty, administrators, students, staff and visitors in order to maintain a harmonious and productive work environment as well as to work as a team player and in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, dealing with persons of diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds with tact and sensitivity. Required Ability to analyze disparate information and formulate and implement creative and effective solutions to problems as they arise. Required Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and implement small and large projects with complex logistics involving multiple tasks and priorities, showing great attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks free of errors. Required Ability to interpret, explain and implement Department and University policies, and regulations, including knowledge of campus policies, procedures regarding financial management, accounting, personnel/payroll, benefits, academic support, on-line computing, etc. Can be trained Ability to effectively utilize all manner of University resources, such as on-line and/or paper based systems to complete the tasks described herein. Can be trained Detailed knowledge of current academic personnel policies and procedures, as well as working knowledge of university accounting and payroll policies and procedures, including EDB and PTR and other on-line systems. Can be trained Demonstrated proficiency and ability to use computer software programs including word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs including but not limited to MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access), Outlook (e-mail), the internet, and familiarity with graphics and multimedia programs. Computing skills sufficient to create and maintain databases to streamline procedures and manage simple budgets. Required Demonstrated skill in operating and maintaining various office machines. Required Ability to adhere to office working hours and expectations.
