ABOUT SDSN The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement. We aim to accelerate joint learning and promote integrated approaches that address the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world. SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society. It is directed by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs and operates through offices in New York, Paris, and Kuala Lumpur. ABOUT THE SCIENCE PANEL FOR THE AMAZON The Science Panel for the Amazon (“SPA” or “Panel”) convened under the auspices of the SDSN, represents the world’s first high-level science initiative dedicated to the survival of the Amazon. It has the mission of “synthesizing and communicating scientific knowledge about the Amazon, integrated with Indigenous and local knowledge, to accelerate solutions for sustainable and equitable development.” The SPA, which launched the landmark 2021 Amazon Assessment Report at UNFCCC COP26 in Glasgow, is a key point of reference on the Amazon. SPA’s first report is the most in-depth and holistic report of its kind on the Amazon.  POSITION SUMMARY The SPA is seeking up to three (3) consultants to support translation of the report into Portuguese. This is an entry-level position. Principal Responsibilities Translate text of SPA report from English or Spanish (per the preference of the incumbent) into Portuguese Translate graphics of SPA report from English or Spanish (per the preference of the staff) into Portuguese Layout document into final format Qualifications, Education, and Experience Must have completed, at minimum, part of a Batchelor’s Degree (current students welcome). Fluency in English and Portuguese Strong written and oral communication skills Expert knowledge of Word Familiarity with google translate Knowledge of Adobe InDesign Interest in the mission of the SPA Important Information Location: This role will report to our New York office, but remote work is possible. Travel: There will not be any travel associated with this role. Reports to: Isabella Leite, Program Manager Contract Term: Position(s) are available on a full- or part-time bases for the period June 1 to August 30.
